Photos of a Southern California Day

Saturday Afternoon Ride Escondido to Seal Beach, CA It has been a long time since I went on a decent bike ride, so I was more than due for today’s ride. My friend Phil wanted to come along, but he only wanted to do a short ride to Cook’s Corner, about 50 miles from here. I rode my Limited and he was on his Glide. As soon as we got off the freeway he suggested we go to Stone Brewery instead. I was not real happy the last time we went there, but since it was 50 miles further I …

Photos From the High Desert

Desert Riding on Black Friday Spangler Camp – Cantil, CA It is Black Friday and the last thing I want to do is go shopping. Fortunately, some friends of mine went out to the desert to go dirt bike riding and invited me to come on out. I did not really take a lot of convincing. I loaded up the Charger with Buddy and my Canon and headed north on CA Hwy 14 out past Mojave to Cantil and an area known to the desert bike riders as Spangler Camp. It was sunny but brisk, but nothing a campfire or …

Phil

Twenty some odd years ago I was riding out to Hermosa Beach to meet my then wife at our favorite watering hole for lunch. Soon after being seated, this guy I recognized vaguely came up to talk. In a nutshell, he had a Harley-Davidson Sportster and wanted to know where I went to have work done on my bike. I told him I did all my own work. He told us a story of woe, having brought his bike into a local shop that was notorious for doing crappy work. To make a long story short, I gave him my …

Project 365 August Recap

A Picture a Day – Project 365 August 2010 August 2010 was a pretty fun month. I guess any month that more than half of it includes riding one of my bikes is a good month. Throw in a few days with my honey in Sturgis, a couple visits to Gu Gu Sushi and some quality time with Buddy and there really is not a lot to complain about. This gallery is a compilation of my picture a day project for August 2010.

Fate or Coincidence

Many years ago, I considered opening a breakfast only restaurant. I got this idea after spending a few days up in the Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear area. Something about that area made me think that if I were to do this, this would be the right place to do it. Since then, I have gone up there at least a dozen times. Each time, I wonder if I should go for it. My photo of the day for day 241 is a place I have driven by numerous times, but never noticed. It is obviously a sign, but is it …

Photos From Spearfish Canyon

Photos of Our Ride Through Spearfish Canyon 70th Annual Black Hills Rally & Races 2010 On Saturday, I decided to take Tanya on a ride through Spearfish Canyon. The Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is billed as one of the most beautiful rides in the country. We started off in Spearfish, then rode it to Deadwood, Boulder Canyon and back into Sturgis. It was kind of rainy, so I did not make as many stops as I would have if it was dry, but we enjoyed the ride thoroughly.

Photos of a day in Sturgis and Rapid City

Sturgis and Rapid City, SD 70th Annual Black Hills Rally and Races, August 2010 We woke up to an absolutely gorgeous day in South Dakota. Not too hot, not too cold. Well rested and a great latte prepared by Tanya (yes, she brought her latte machine and special blend of coffee with her), and we were ready to roll. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of traffic. I had spoken to a few people on their way home from Sturgis and had been led to believe that there were more than 1.250 million attendees. Well, if there were that …

Cheyenne, WY to Piedmont, SD

Photos from Wyoming and South Dakota The Final Leg of the Ride to the Black Hills Rally Thursday did not quite go as planned. I started off in Cheyenne, WY and should have been able to make it to Piedmont, SD (my destination) in five hours. Unfortunately, within minutes of leaving Cheyenne I knew there was something physically wrong with me as I had very little muscle control. Unfortunately, as I mentioned the other day, once you leave civilization in Wyoming you are pretty much committed to continuing on until you reach another big town. It just so happens that …

Grand Junction to Denver Pictures

Photos From I-70 In Colorado The ride from Grand Junction to Denver, CO Wednesday morning, I continued my ride to the 70th Annual Black Hills Rally and Races from Grand Junction, CO. I was doing well on the amount of miles traveled per day, so I was able to stop a little more frequently and enjoy the Colorado beauty found along I-70. This included going through the Eisenhower Tunnel, which is over 11,000 feet in elevation. This resulted in the temperatures dropping to the high 70’s and low 80’s. After spending the last few days in the high 90’s and …

The Road To Sturgis

Photos From Day One of the Ride To Sturgis [adrotate group=”6″] Torrance, CA to Grand Junction, CO 2010 was the 70th Annual Black Hills Rally & Races in Sturgis, S.D. The last time I went was in 2006 and I swore I would never return due to the amount of people that were now attending. If they all came on motorcycles instead of dragging them along on trailers it would not be so bad, but Sturgis just was not built for one million people. Since I got a new bike, and the price of gas went up, I figured it …
