Photos from Sturgis motocross races

Motocross Races At Sturgis Sponsored By the Jackpine Gypsies What many people seem to forget is that the Black Hills Rally and Races was first conceived by the Jackpine Gypsies motorcycle club in 1938 and it was about the races. Well, to be accurate, the first time had just one racing event with nine participants. One might suggest that after 70 years of rallies (they missed a couple due to WWII) that the event has grown substantially. When I first started riding motorcycles around 1968, it was on the dirt and motocross was my thing. When Tanya and I were …

Photos from Deadwood, South Dakota

Photos from Deadwood Bike Week, Black Hills Rally After riding through Spearfish Canyon, you are dropped off in Lead followed by Deadwood. Lead does not really have a lot to offer and as Tanya had never been to Deadwood before it was decided that we would stop there for lunch and to check out the hot bikes. Deadwood has really changed a lot since my first visit in 1986. I guess the combination of bikers and casinos has paid off for them. I am not really sure why Sturgis does not have any casinos, or if they do have them, …

Photos From Spearfish Canyon

Photos of Our Ride Through Spearfish Canyon 70th Annual Black Hills Rally & Races 2010 On Saturday, I decided to take Tanya on a ride through Spearfish Canyon. The Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is billed as one of the most beautiful rides in the country. We started off in Spearfish, then rode it to Deadwood, Boulder Canyon and back into Sturgis. It was kind of rainy, so I did not make as many stops as I would have if it was dry, but we enjoyed the ride thoroughly.

Grand Junction to Denver Pictures

Photos From I-70 In Colorado The ride from Grand Junction to Denver, CO Wednesday morning, I continued my ride to the 70th Annual Black Hills Rally and Races from Grand Junction, CO. I was doing well on the amount of miles traveled per day, so I was able to stop a little more frequently and enjoy the Colorado beauty found along I-70. This included going through the Eisenhower Tunnel, which is over 11,000 feet in elevation. This resulted in the temperatures dropping to the high 70’s and low 80’s. After spending the last few days in the high 90’s and …

Motocross

Yesterday, we took a ride through Spearfish Canyon, visited Deadwood, watched some motocross and visited a very nice petrified forest that happened to be behind our cabin. While at the races I was able to practice my action shots with the Canon and am very happy with the results. I gave a stack of my business cards to a track official that said he knew most of the parents of the racers. If you received one of the cards and came here looking for the photos I took, you are a little early. I am working with a slow connection, …

The Road to Psycho Donuts

Photos From Psycho Donuts [adrotate group=”6″] Campbell, CA, I learned about Psycho Donuts, in Campbell, CA via their Facebook page. A quick look at their specialty donuts convinced me that I needed to take a drive up there and sample their goods. This past weekend Tanya, Buddy and I made the journey. We had a good time and met some nice people along the way. [adrotate group=”1″]

Video of 4th of July Fireworks Display

As I mentioned yesterday, I am in Indiana for the 4th of July holiday. With all apologies to Indiana residents, this place sucks in July. However, they have very liberal fireworks laws and that is enough incentive to make me consider the journey. Combine that with the fact that my girlfriend lives here, it is not too difficult a decision to make. When I fly in, the first stop is always the Phantom Fireworks in Chesterton. This video is of the final display of my 4th Annual Fireworks Show.

More picture of the day shots

Even though my cameras seem to want to mess with me, I am keeping up with the picture a day concept. Here are my latest contributions. As you may have noticed, I take pictures of my food before I eat it. On day 176 my picture of the day was of Buddy’s food, while he was eating it. Day 177 was Saturday, and I typically stick around home so Tanya can have the day off. Buddy and I played around with the Canon. I think he is learning to deal with the constant click of the cameras around here. Day …

Photos From Sequoia National Park

Ride to Sequoia National Park [adrotate group=”6″] Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains Since it is Memorial Day weekend, I decided to take an extended Sunday ride this week. I loaded up the Limited with my Canon and laptop and headed back to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I initially intended to head up the 395, but since I was there a couple of weeks ago, I decided to veer to the west side of the Sierra Nevada mountains and go to Sequoia National Park instead. I need more time there, so I will return again with Geek Good Girl. Enjoy the photos. …

Photos of Littlefield Cemetery in Arizona

Littlefield Cemetery [adrotate group=”6″] Photos from Littlefield, AZ When you travel north on Interstate 15 out of Nevada, you cut through a small slice of Arizona before you hit Utah. Although this slice of AZ is very thin, it really does have some remarkable scenery. Tanya and I both enjoy visiting old cemeteries, so when we spotted this gem outside of Littlefield, we did not hesitate to pull off to investigate. As you can see, it was worth the stop.
