Merry Christmas from GotBaddog

I have mentioned a couple of Christmas traditions I have in prior posts, but my favorite of all has to be my Christmas morning ride. As I am sure most of you are aware, the day after Thanksgiving starts the Christmas shopping season. This means one thing to me, lots of traffic. There are several large malls within a five mile perimeter so we get lots of traffic. I have lived in homes that were virtually impossible to get out of the driveway because of the amount of traffic. It makes owning a motorcycle pretty handy. On Christmas morning the …

Yes, I could have walked

I needed horseradish. I also needed a bike ride. I could have gone to the supermarket that is a five minute walk from here, but I really needed that bike ride. Besides, what if I got the wrong kind? I know a deli out in Marina del Rey that should be able to tell me all I need to know about horseradish. After all, it was a beautiful day in the South Bay and I could not really remember how long it has been since I last went for a ride. I do not need an excuse, but I did …

Excited about blue skies

Okay, maybe the skies were not exactly blue, but there were blue patches. After a week of rain the patches of blue caused as much excitement around here as the dove returning with an olive branch must have caused on Noah’s ark. My photo of the day for day 356 is of the local seagulls celebrating their ability to fly again.

Photos of Christmas Lights in Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow Christmas 2010 Candy Cane Lane, Torrance I am not really sure when the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, CA first began dressing up as Candy Cane Lane for the Christmas season, but it has to be close to 20 years. I have brought a few people there over the years, and no one has ever left disappointed. For several blocks, most of the homes have set up extravagant displays, to the point that entire streets are lit up. Whether Santa is riding a surfboard, Harley or sleigh; or if there are reindeer or dolphins towing him along, there …

Is it winter yet?

There are several reasons why I live in Southern California and being able to go to the beach in the middle of December wearing a t-shirt ranks right up there. Since Tanya’s time here is drawing to a close, and the weather was so nice, we decided to go up to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in search of a dog beach I recently heard about. My picture of the day for day 344 is a candid photo Tanya took while we were out exploring the cliffs and shore of the Rancho PV.

Photos From Trump National Golf Club

A December Day at the Shore Rancho Palos Verdes, CA A few weeks ago, while walking Buddy I met a guy that had recently moved into the area. We were discussing places to walk our dogs and he mentioned a dog beach out by the Trump National Golf Club on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This was news to me as I thought the closest dog friendly beach to me was down in Long Beach. Today, Tanya, Buddy and I took a drive up there to check it out. The Trump National Golf Club looks amazing, but for $250 million, I …

Photos of a Southern California Day

Saturday Afternoon Ride Escondido to Seal Beach, CA It has been a long time since I went on a decent bike ride, so I was more than due for today’s ride. My friend Phil wanted to come along, but he only wanted to do a short ride to Cook’s Corner, about 50 miles from here. I rode my Limited and he was on his Glide. As soon as we got off the freeway he suggested we go to Stone Brewery instead. I was not real happy the last time we went there, but since it was 50 miles further I …

Photos From the High Desert

Desert Riding on Black Friday Spangler Camp – Cantil, CA It is Black Friday and the last thing I want to do is go shopping. Fortunately, some friends of mine went out to the desert to go dirt bike riding and invited me to come on out. I did not really take a lot of convincing. I loaded up the Charger with Buddy and my Canon and headed north on CA Hwy 14 out past Mojave to Cantil and an area known to the desert bike riders as Spangler Camp. It was sunny but brisk, but nothing a campfire or …

More Like It

It seems like only yesterday, or last week, that I was complaining about how wet it was around here. Now, I am noticing several of my Facebook friends complaining about how hot it is. It is really easy to tell which of them have not lived here long enough to figure out that this is LA. This is the time of year that we shine, literally and figuratively. My photo of the day today is of the view from my front porch as Buddy and I headed out for our morning walk.

A Photo a Day For September 2010

A Picture a Day – Project 365 September 2010 What a month September was. I should have figured that starting it off with a visit to a doctor was not a good way to start it off, but I had little choice. Enough complaining. All in all, it was a good month with a visit to my first hot air balloon festival, then off to Europe with Tanya. We had an amazing time together, visiting Ireland, Barcelona and Amsterdam.
