Another Sierra Nevada morning

I decided to try and get another shot of Horsetail Falls, so last night Buddy and I hit the road and headed back up north. Since Oakhurst has better cell phone and wireless Internet reception than Mariposa, we spent the night there. My picture of the day for day 54 of Project365 is of me admiring a carved replica of the Statue of Liberty which we came across on our morning walk.

Photos from a snowy Yosemite

If you are a regular reader of GotBaddog.com you will recall that last week Tanya and I went up to Yosemite to try and photograph a natural phenomena that occurs the last two weeks of February at Horsetail Falls. This phenomena requires a few things to be right in order for the effect to happen. These include sunlight and enough water coming over the falls in addition to the proper positioning of the sun, which only happens in February. We lucked out and went 2:2 on Saturday and Sunday. On Valentine’s Day we could see a storm was moving in, …

Valentine’s Day at Yosemite

Since we had such good luck last week, shooting Horsetail Falls, I decided to come back to Yosemite. As I was driving back up to Oakhurst, I realized I never finished putting up the pictures from our Valentine’s weekend. I completely missed the photos from Valentine’s Day itself. It was very overcast, and it was obvious a storm was headed our way, so we cut through the park and came out on Highway 41. These are the photos from Yosemite National Park, going from 140 across to 41.

A wooded view

Saturday started with a walk through Mariposa, CA with my faithful companion, Buddy. Mariposa Creek provides for a nice view due to the nature that surrounds it. This includes not only the foliage, but there were lots of cool birds to check out as well. My photo of the day for day 44 of Project365 is of me as I paused on a bridge to enjoy the view of the creek.

Since we had pretty good luck on Saturday, we decided to return to Horsetail Falls on Sunday. We got there about 3.5 hours early and picked our spot. Everything looked great until the sun started going down. There was a huge cloud bank which threatened to block the sun’s rays from hitting the falls, a very important ingredient to the equation. To be honest, I was ready to pack it in along with many others. Luckily, Tanya wanted to stick it out. At the last minute the sun broke through and we got our shots.

Yosemite National Park Photos From the High Sierra After spending the day in Sequoia National Park we drove to Oakhurst to spend the evening. It was a really nice place to wake up to. I took Buddy out for his morning walk, then after bringing him back to the room, I went for another walk with my camera. After a small breakfast we headed up Highway 41 to Yosemite. I can not believe I had never been before. The one thing I noticed was that the views looked almost fake because they were so beautiful. It was like a pull …

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Photos from Sequoia and Kings Canyon Southern Sierra Nevada National Parks I do not really have a lot to say. Tanya was in town and there was nothing on TV. I asked Buddy if he wanted to go for a ride and he jumped in the car and waited for two hours, so we went for a drive. We ended up at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. It was a lot different there today than when I went to Sequoia last May. Zero snow and the rivers were way down. I suppose that is only natural and next May …

Ride to Sequoia National Park [adrotate group=”6″] Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains Since it is Memorial Day weekend, I decided to take an extended Sunday ride this week. I loaded up the Limited with my Canon and laptop and headed back to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I initially intended to head up the 395, but since I was there a couple of weeks ago, I decided to veer to the west side of the Sierra Nevada mountains and go to Sequoia National Park instead. I need more time there, so I will return again with Geek Good Girl. Enjoy the photos. …

Photos from the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains

Bridgeport, Twin Lakes, Mono Lake and the Sierra Nevada Mountains We woke up in Bridgeport, which is one of those towns along US 395 that if you blink, you will miss it. Buddy and I began the day with a walk through town. That was enough to convince me that we were going to have to do a little exploring before we started the last leg of our journey home. I saw a sign for Twin Lakes and decided that we should go check them out. It was a great decision as the lakes and snow-capped mountains were very picturesque. …
