These photos are from our latest Business N Beer gathering; which was held last night at The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach. The Rockefeller, for those unfamiliar, is a fine gastropub located on Pier Avenue. The term gastropub seems to be an up and coming catch-phrase and is frequently tossed around a little too liberally. Serving a few beers on tap with half of them being mainstream domestic brews like Budweiser or Coors and offering burgers and fries for food, does not a gastropub make. A gastropub serves upscale foods and craft beers. There are a few real gastropubs in the South Bay and for my money The Rockefeller sets the bar on what I look for. They have 24 or 25 craft beers from around the world with rotating kegs. That means the choices change frequently; there will usually be a few staples then they rotate the guest beers. On top of that, they serve flights and let you build your own. If you are not sure what to try, let your server put one together for you. It is the best way to try new beer anyway. The food is outstanding, from their White Bean Hummus, to their Chicken & Waffles to their Bread Pudding. It is always a good time.
We had another nice turnout, between 15 and 18 throughout the evening. My prior observations about how each gathering has had a few people from each of the prior meets and a few new people continues. The group is growing and as such, the different fields represented grows as well. I took the opportunity to talk one on one with a couple people to get their input as far as the value found thus far, remembering that no one has been to more than four of these events. Everyone has found something a little different; from actually making a potential business deal to just being glad to have the opportunity to get the exposure that Business N Beer brings them. The overwhelming consensus was that no matter what, they were enjoying some time with new friends as well as some old friends and they were really enjoying the locations we have introduced them to.
Next week Business N Beer will be held at El Segundo Brewing Company (ESBC), located at 140 Main Street in El Segundo. ESBC is another of the local microbreweries in the South Bay. They usually have a pale ale, a couple I.P.A.’s (their White Dog is amazing) and a double stout. They are offering our group $5 flights, so take advantage of that and try them all so you can see which you like best. Be sure to Like Business N Beer on Facebook or get on the mailing list at BusinessNBeer.com so you can stay in the loop.
