Another Birthday Dinner
Tanya’s birthday seems to be a long one this year. Today’s Project 365 daily photo shows Tanya and I outside Gaucho’s while we await their opening.

Road Trip Photos, Day Four [adrotate group=”6″] Green River, UT to Cortez, CO Started off the day in one of Butch Cassidy’s old haunts, Green River, UT. We then headed over to Moab and Arches National Park. Beautiful place, and very photogenic. After several hours there we decided to head to CO. On the way we found a turnoff for Canyonlands National Park. I had never heard of it before, but I have an annual pass for all the national parks, so a detour was made. Definitely looked like Indian country. Majestic. We ended up in Cortez, CO and had …
Itzik Hagadol Grill, Encino, CA [adrotate group=”6″] Authentic Israeli Food When I was first introduced to Itzik Hagadol, I was told the name was Big Itzik. When I wrote about it last month, I called it Big Itzik. As I was standing outside waiting on our dinner guests I noticed it did not say “big” anywhere. I was told that hagadol means big. I have not been able to verify that. What I do know, is that their food is delicious. [adrotate group=”1″]
Tonight is our last night together for three weeks, so it is somewhat appropriate that my photo of the day is of Geek Good Girl and myself. Here we are waiting for some friends to meet us for dinner. Day 74 of Project 365.
Every weekend I am home, I try to take a motorcycle ride to somewhere cool. When my son joins me, we frequently end up at a winery or brewery. Many of these locations not only have a nice variety of beverages, but have very good food to go along with it. A couple weeks ago, we headed up to Solvang and discovered Sort This Out Cellars. To be honest, I do not recall the last time I had visited Solvang. I kind of remembered the windmill and European style architecture, but it had been long enough that I remembered nothing …
A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I were invited to experience an authentic Israeli meal. Since our host is Israeli, when he told me it was the real deal, I really had no reason to doubt him. After all, he wanted us to experience what a true Israeli meal was like, and if this was the best example he knew of in the Los Angeles area, I was game. We were not disappointed. We met him at Big Itzik Grill, which is located in a strip mall on Ventura Blvd, in Encino. I have to say, I am beginning …

The first time I ever tried sushi was back in the early 70’s. Some new chain, whose name escapes me, had come to Southern California and my [now ex] wife and I decided to give it a shot. I was not impressed and never returned. Fast forward 30 years and I found myself in an industry whose members seemed to exist for sushi, so I was pretty much forced into developing a taste for it. I still would never consider ordering, and relied solely on others, as I did not have a clue what would be the best rolls. As …
There is absolutely no restaurant that I have been going to longer than Pancho’s Restaurant in Manhattan Beach. When I have out of town guests, Pancho’s is my “go to” place. I was kind of surprised when I saw that my girlfriend had named Pancho’s as her favorite restaurant on one of those Facebook quizzes, since she lives in another state and had only been there two or three times. The first time I went to Pancho’s was in 1971 or 1972. It was a small hole-in-the-wall joint with a Chinese decor. Apparently they had recently purchased the building and …
