Business & Beer returns to El Segundo Brewing Co

These photos are from our Business & Beer meetup last night at El Segundo Brewing Company (ESBC), a microbrewery in downtown El Segundo that specializes in great ales. We had a nice turnout of 10, which is pretty good considering that ESBC is the most northern location we visit. Unfortunately, our use of Meetup.com did nothing to strengthen our numbers this time around; but we will give them a try for another month. If you know of or own a gastropub in the South Bay area that we have not visited and you feel would be a great location for …

El Segundo Brewing Bottle Release Party

These photos are from the El Segundo Brewing Company (ESBC) Bottle Release Party which was held Friday night, February 1. The Bottle Release Party was to celebrate the two brews they are now providing in 22oz bottles, their ever popular White Dog Wheat IPA and their new Stand Crude Imperial Stout. A Facebook status update that went out a couple hours before the event started stated that it would be their “biggest shindig yet;” I don’t think they knew just how big of a shindig this was going to be. They opened at 5:00 and when we arrived around 5:30 …

Mayans were wrong; ESBC celebrates with Standard Crude Release

These photos are from El Segundo Brewing Company’s (ESBC) Standard Crude Release party which was held Friday evening, December 21, 2012. Throwing caution to the wind, Rob Croxall and Thomas Kelley decided to not worry about the end of the Mayan Calendar, and possibly the world as we know it, and released their first 10% beer, Standard Crude American Imperial Stout. Judging by the turnout at their tasting room, there were many that were equally relieved that the world did not end and they came out to welcome El Segundo’s latest brew. In addition to the Standard Crude, ESBC offered …

Day three of the 2012 LA Beer Week

So, this is the 4th Annual LA Beer Week, which runs from September 20-30. Yes, our “Beer Week” is 11 days long. I am not sure if we get overtime or not. I have not made a concerted effort to participate in all the festivities but it seems that I will be to some degree. It was not planned, but Day One of LA Beer Week happen to be on a Thursday, which means we had a Business & Beer meetup at The Brewery at Abigaile. Friday, or Day Two of Beer Week was spent at Oktoberfest at Alpine Village. …

Space Shuttle Endeavour arrives at LAX

These photos were taken this morning in El Segundo at Imperial Avenue and California Street, as we attempted to take some photos of the arrival of Space Shuttle Endeavour to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). We did not get there until a little after 10:00 AM and the crowds were already starting to grow; even though the shuttle was not scheduled to arrive until noon or a little after. Luckily, we brought the Limited so parking was not an issue so we cruised around a little to find a better spot for viewing, but decided our original choice was as …

Business N Beer comes to El Segundo Brewing Company

Last night, we brought Business N Beer to El Segundo Brewing Company. El Segundo Brewing Company, or ESBC, specializes in ales and for my money, brews one of the finest IPA’s in the South Bay with their White Dog IPA. As the photos show, this was the smallest turnout we have had since we started last month; however since ESBC is also the furthest away from Torrance and most of our members seem to be from the Torrance area I am not too surprised. On the upside, even though it was our smallest group, we still had a first timer …

American Craft Beer Week: Spotlighting local brews

Day five of American Craft Beer Week found us at three local brewers; Monkish Brewing, El Segundo Brewing Company and Strand Brewing Company. Monkish and Strand are both located in Torrance; I will let you guess what city El Segundo Brewing is in. While we have tried some of the craft brews from each of the brewers, it was at Select Beer Store during their South Bay Tap Takeover; so we had only tried one or two of their brews. We were impressed with all three enough that it was not a problem making a special visit. Monkish Brewing specializes …

Rock and Brews, El Segundo

A couple of weeks ago, my buddy Phil told me about a new restaurant in El Segundo that had 50 beers on tap, so it did not take much convincing to get me to head over to Rock & Brews last Saturday to check it out. Rock & Brews is partially owned by Gene Simmons, so it was a safe bet that with the combination of rock and roll and 50 beers on tap this was going to be a pleasurable experience. The weather was so-so, but we wanted to go for a bike ride and I figured it would …

Lady of Magic at Farm Stand Restaurant

Last night we drove to El Segundo to go to the Farm Stand Restaurant for dinner and to enjoy a little table magic performed by our new friend, the Lady of Magic, Sisuepahn Phila. We met Sisuepahn at her New Year’s Eve party/fundraiser for the Midnight Mission, which is a homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles. I have to admit, I really enjoy watching her perform as it is so much more than just slight of hand card tricks. I promise, you will be amazed if you get the chance to see it yourself. That being said, this Saturday there …

Photos from the Jenny Krebs fundraiser

Long time El Segundo resident, Jennifer Krebs, was recently diagnosed with stage three cancer. Since she will be starting chemo therapy soon, and El Segundo being the tight knit community it is, friends and family threw a fundraiser Friday night at Harry O’s. A small donation at the door was requested with all proceeds going towards Krebs’ medical costs. Entertainment was provided by Hoist the Colors, which I can only describe as an Irish folk/rock band. There was a silent auction and a donation bucket that was passed along all evening. Judging by the smiles it appeared that everyone was …
