I am such a slacker at times. I had full intentions of keeping my picture a day project somewhat current while traveling through Europe, but long days and slow Internet connections made it rather difficult. So it is time to play catch up again.
On day 258 we boarded a bus for a three day tour of west and southern Ireland. Since I had never driven on the wrong side of the road intentionally before, much less with a car that had the steering wheel on the wrong side, it was decided that this would be the best way to be introduced to the Emerald Isle. This photo was taken at Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland.
Day 259 found us on the road from Galway to Killarney. The highlights of this portion of the trip was Cliffs of Moher which is a finalist in the the seven wonders of nature competition. We also took a horse and carriage ride through the Killarney National Park.
Day 260 was the last day of our three day tour which took us from Killarney back to Dublin. The first stop was the Blarney Castle which, of course, is the home of the famed Blarney Stone. We have visited many castles in the last year, and I would have to rank this as among the best.
Since we still had three days left in Ireland, we decided to spend it exploring more of Dublin. As far as I am concerned, no trip to Dublin would be complete without a visit to the Guinness-Storehouse. I am lucky enough to have a girlfriend that likes dark beer as much as I do, so it took little convincing that we should pay it a visit. While there, we were both trained and certified on the proper method of pouring a pint. My picture of the day for day 261 is of the pints Tanya and I poured.
On Sunday the GAA All Ireland Football Finals were held in Dublin. About 82,000 people attended, with 81,000 of them walking through Dublin to get there. It made for some great people watching. My picture of the day for day 262 is of Tanya and me outside Croke Park where it was held.
Monday evening we were leaving for Barcelona, so Monday was spent as a whirlwind tour of the things in Dublin we had yet to visit. This included Christ Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedrals and The Church. The picture of the day for day 263 is of Tanya and me outside Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.
