How to get to Sleepy Hollow for Candy Cane Lane

After my post showing the Christmas lights in the Sleepy Hollow section of Torrance, I have had several people contact me asking how to get there. Since there are a few streets blocked off to assist with the traffic flow, I will tell you the easiest way to get there. For those of you that live in the South Bay, you are probably already familiar with Candy Cane Lane, but if not, it is in the area of Torrance bordered by Pacific Coast Highway, Prospect, Calle Mayor and Palos Verdes Blvd. The area is a little more compact than that, …

Invasion of the Christmas Leprechauns

As Buddy and I were taking our morning walk, I was alarmed to see that the neighborhood appears to be under some sort of an invasion. Judging by the size of the invaders combined with all the clover around them, I came to the conclusion that these must be Christmas Leprechauns. My photo of the day for day 348 is of a contingent of the invasion force.

Sleepy Hollow Christmas 2010 Candy Cane Lane, Torrance I am not really sure when the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, CA first began dressing up as Candy Cane Lane for the Christmas season, but it has to be close to 20 years. I have brought a few people there over the years, and no one has ever left disappointed. For several blocks, most of the homes have set up extravagant displays, to the point that entire streets are lit up. Whether Santa is riding a surfboard, Harley or sleigh; or if there are reindeer or dolphins towing him along, there …

For Those That Missed It

I have visited flyover states this time of year, and I can understand how you might forget what a sunny, blue sky looks like. For you, my photo of the day for day 347 is of Mr. Sun and me, on my Monday morning walk, December 13. Enjoy.

My Little Biker Babe

Since I purchased the new Limited, Tanya has begun riding more with me and takes longer rides. Unfortunately, sometimes the rides can be a little tough on her due to her RA. I was planning on taking her to Chopperfest on Sunday, but by Friday she was hurting to the point that she decided she would stay home. By Saturday evening she decided that if I gave her a proper massage, she would be able to make it. My photo of the day for day 346 is of Tanya and I at Chopperfest. As you can tell by the smile, …

Panhead Roli

In 1987, I had made plans to ride my bike to Daytona Beach, FL for Bike Week. A friend of mine from up north heard about it and told me that he was hanging out with some Swiss guy that was also riding to Daytona and suggested that we should ride together. I took his recommendation and told him to give the Swiss guy my address. A few weeks later, a long-haired guy with a big smile, and very little English, showed up on my porch. A couple hours later we headed out in the rain towards Florida. To make …

Photos of Chopperfest 2010

Photos of the David Mann Chopperfest 2010 Ventura, CA – December 12 There are probably not many people that have influenced the motorcycle building community as much as David Mann. Even if you do not build motorcycles, his artwork definitely portrayed common experiences of Harley riders back in the day. The man was a living legend. Shortly after his death in 2004, the David Mann Chopperfest was conceived. Yesterday was the 7th Annual David Mann Chopperfest. The festival, held in Ventura, CA, is a combination bike show and motorcycle swap meet, with music, food, drink, vendors, art displays and lots …

Bartels’ Harley-Davidson Customer Appreciation Breakfast

Photos From Bartels’ H-D Pancake Breakfast Marina del Rey, CA – December 12, 2010 Bartel’s Harley-Davidson is the Harley dealer to the stars. I am not sure when they achieved that status, but I am pretty confident I have been coming there since before then. They were a small outfit, tucked on the side streets when I first discovered them. Since I rode my bike more frequently than the average rider, it did not take long to become recognized. I have since bought a couple new Harleys from them, including my new Limited. Yesterday, Bartel’s had a free pancake breakfast …

Is it winter yet?

There are several reasons why I live in Southern California and being able to go to the beach in the middle of December wearing a t-shirt ranks right up there. Since Tanya’s time here is drawing to a close, and the weather was so nice, we decided to go up to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in search of a dog beach I recently heard about. My picture of the day for day 344 is a candid photo Tanya took while we were out exploring the cliffs and shore of the Rancho PV.
