Wednesday was Tanya’s birthday and since she has been feeling much better over that past couple of months, combined with the fact that she has been working pretty hard lately, we decided to take a couple days off to celebrate her birthday.
We started off on Wednesday at Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar and had a couple friends join us. Anyone that has been following this blog for a while knows that we are huge fans of Matsuyama Sushi, so that was a good start to the day. We then decided to go out to Palos Verdes to see if we could find any whales to photograph. We spotted one swimming mammal, but I don’t know if it was a whale or a dolphin; we did not get a chance to photograph it. We then headed down to the Redondo Beach breakwater to catch the sunset and ended the day with a visit to Sophie’s Place for a slice of birthday carrot cake. If you like carrot cake and live in the South Bay, Sophie’s is where you want to go.
Thursday morning we had to go out to Beverly Hills for a follow-up visit to Tanya’s rheumatologist. Since Tanya has been feeling so much better we decided to take the bike so we could head up to Gorman afterwards to see if there was much in the way of wildflowers blooming. There were a few California poppies, but nothing spectacular. It was a nice day for a motorcycle ride though. On the way back we stopped at Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Co. Even though this gastropub has been around for 16 years, I had never heard of them. The food we tried was enough to make us want to return, and their beers sealed the deal; we shall return.
The photos have been donated to Tanya’s favorite charity, the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation.
