Tanya and I decided to take a drive around Torrance last night, and check out the Christmas lights in some of the smaller neighborhoods. Not every area is going to be as dressed up as the Sleepy Hollow area of Torrance, but it seemed that any street you turn on will have several homes decorated in the holiday spirit. These photos are of some of those homes.
These photos were taken Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the 8th Annual David Mann Chopperfest, held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA. Chopperfest is dedicated to the life and memory of David Mann, arguably the most influential designer in the custom motorcycle world. Besides a bike show that includes some of the most beautiful motorcycles around, there was a motorcycle swap meet, vendors with food, beer, accessories and clothing, music provided by the Bob Carrillo Band and a roller derby exhibition by the Sugartown Rollergirls. Contrary to what you might think, this was fun for the entire family.
Saturday evening was the 20th Annual King Harbor Boat Parade in Redondo Beach. After spending the day at the Mooneye’s Christmas car show and drag races, I packed up the camera and Tanya and headed down to King Harbor. We decided to have dinner at On the Rocks since they were located at the perfect location to watch the parade. The Christmas boat parade consisted of various boats that are docked in Redondo Beach, getting decorated with lights and sailing in a circle around the marina. Mooneye’s annual Christmas party includes a custom car show and drag races. Probably the coolest part of the drag races is that the cars are all pre-1969. I was fortunate enough to receive a pit pass this year, so these photos should be a lot better than my photos of last year’s Mooneye’s drag races.
These photos are from the 2011 Mooneye’s Christmas party and custom car show. This annual event was held Saturday December 10, 2011 at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. This is a true custom car show with all cars being pre-1965. This is a fun event for the entire family and a true visual experience as the car owners obviously put in a tremendous amount of effort and love to turn out the vehicles displayed.
When we went to Staples last night, I got spun around and ended up parking by LA Live on 11th Street. To my surprise, they had the street blocked off and an old style carnival set up. I presumed it was some kind of Christmas carnival, but no one that worked there really knew what was going on. Even the security personnel said they had never seen anything like this before and that it had no name that they knew of. Every year for the last three years, my friend Joe gets a couple suites at Staples Center and he invites a few dozen of his friends to come join him for a Christmas party while watching the Los Angeles Kings. It is always a great time with fun people, a visit from a few of the King’s Ice Crew, snacks and drinks. Sometimes the Kings win to make the event perfect. Well, the Kings got whipped by the Minnesota Wild last night, but luckily all the other ingredients remained so it was another successful Christmas party at Staples. Back to …
These photos are from the SCORE Small Business Growth Series, held at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Culver City. This particular event concentrated on social media marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Google Analytics, finances for small businesses and more. This was a free event for small business owners sponsored by City National Bank, Constant Contact and the Culver City Chamber of Commerce. I have been doing Internet Marketing since 1996 and I learned stuff there, so I have to recommend any upstart small business owner to look to see if there is a SCORE chapter near you. Today, Tanya and I went to our first Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce function. It was their December Network at Noon, which was held at Oliver’s Cafe in Redondo Beach. Synergy DTI is the parent company and since Tanya now lives in Torrance, we decided to join. I have to say, I am really looking forward to this. Business opportunities abound. I almost feel silly for not joining years ago. If you are a small business owner, I suggest at least checking out your local Chamber of Commerce. Business to business is good business.
