Pliny the Younger release party at 38 Degrees

It is that time of year again; the groundhog looks for his shadow, people dodge asteroids and rumors of Pliny the Younger sightings start making their rounds. It was a week ago that I first heard rumors of Pliny the Younger being poured locally, but when I investigated further I discovered it was Pliny the Elder that was making an appearance; a nice IPA, but not quite a Younger. When I was at the Abigaile One Year Anniversary party a gentleman that was sitting next to us informed me that he had just gotten a text that Pliny the Younger …

Tortilla Cantina hosts another Business & Beer

Last night, Business & Beer returned to Tortilla Cantina in downtown Torrance and we had a very nice turnout. Since we do not have mandatory meetings, people show up when they can and if they are too busy with other things on a particular night, they are welcomed back with open arms. Last night we had several people we have not seen in a while along with one new attendee. It made for a pretty good sized group and everyone seemed to have a good time. Remember, if networking with others is part of your business model and you live …

Photos from Business N Beer at Sophie’s Place

These photos are from our weekly Business & Beer gathering, which was held last night at Sophie’s Place in the Riviera Village section of Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a family run gastropub, run by three brothers, and it is one place that always makes us feel like family; whether we come in as a group or by ourselves. Besides having a very nice beer list, with eight beers available on rotating taps and about 50 varieties available in bottles, they have a great food menu. Last night, Tanya and I tried a Yeti Float which is made with vanilla …

Schooner at Sunset, Sunset Beach

These photos were taken Saturday at a new gastropub, Schooner at Sunset, which is located at 16821 Pacific Coast Highway, Sunset Beach, CA. For those not sure where Sunset Beach is, it is the very north end of Huntington Beach, just south of Seal Beach. Your car’s GPS is most likely going to call it Huntington Beach, so don’t worry, it is all the same place. To be honest, I am not really in the habit of going down there unless I am taking a weekend motorcycle ride down the coast. The fact of the matter is, when I initially …

Business & Beer at Brewco, Manhattan Beach

These photos are from our Business & Beer gathering at Brewco, a gastropub in Manhattan Beach, CA. Brewco was initially opened about 20 years ago as Manhattan Beach Brewing Company. From what I can tell, they stopped brewing beer on location sometime in 2009 at which point it re-opened as Brewco. Brewco offers about 50 beers on tap, with most of them being craft beers from around the world. They also offer several bottled craft beers and frequently have hard to find brews available. This was the first time that we brought Business & Beer to this location and it …

Business & Beer at Alpine Inn, Torrance

These photos are from our return visit to the Alpine Inn with our Business & Beer networking group. The Alpine Inn is a German gastropub that has a nice selection of craft beers from the United States, Germany and the Czech Republic. This was our third visit to the Alpine Inn and it seems that every time we meet there we have a nice turnout of about 15 people. When you consider that Alpine Village is the furthest south we take our group and that it was only three days after New Year’s Day, I was pleased to see the …

Business & Beer comes to 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro, Torrance

These photos are from our Business & Beer gathering at the 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro, a gastropub located in Old Torrance. 1321 Taproom is a popular destination for beer drinkers due to the 16 taps of craft beers that they have available. They also offer flights of various sizes (4, 8, 12) for the adventurous craft beer drinkers out there. While the name indicates that they serve food as well as drink, they are in the process of redoing their kitchen staff and menu, so the kitchen is currently closed. To welcome Business & Beer for their first get-together at …

Business N Beer’s return visit to Sophie’s Place, Redondo Beach

These photos are from our Business & Beer networking group’s return to Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach last night. Sophie’s Place is a gastropub that serves really good food and offers 50 varieties of craft beer with eight brews on rotating taps. While our last few Business & Beer gatherings have had six or seven people show up, last night we had about 15. I was happy to see the big turnout, we had a good time. If networking helps your business or it fits into your job description and you live or work in the South Bay, come check …

Business & Beer return visit to The Rockefeller

These photos are from our Business & Beer gathering last Thursday at The Rockefeller Gastropub in Hermosa Beach, CA. The Rockefeller has been one of our favorite destinations since we discovered them back in May. They offer a wide selection of craft beers on tap and have a food menu that seems to change with the seasons. You can always find something interesting on it. In addition, they constantly have wine and beer tastings and various food specials going on what seems daily. You should check them out if you haven’t, it is always a pleasant experience. Our group was …
