2012 Palos Verdes Street Fair Saturday: Food, Vendors and Contests

These photos are from Saturday, June 9 at the 2012 Palos Verdes Street Fair & Music Festival, held in Rolling Hills Estates, CA. These photos will include (in order) the beer garden, featuring local brewers The Brewery at Abigaile and Strand Brewing Co, the food court, Best Pie and Pie Eating Contests and the rest of the vendors. The photos are not in the order or the day since I was bouncing all around. Above each photo is the image ID. The beer garden photos will be named Abigale, beergarden or StrandBrewing. The food court is simply food, then BestPie, …

The Rockefeller Gastropub, Hermosa Beach

Last month, during American Craft Beer Week (ACBW), I accidentally discovered The Rockefeller Gastropub on Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach. I will never forget our first visit there. It was day six of ACBW and it was my goal to find as many American craft beers that I had never tried before as possible. The fact that I was able to come up with 12 new brews at that point of our adventure truly said something about the quality of the brews they pour. As Colleen, the manager, said, “We try to keep a good turnaround of quality brews.” They …

American Craft Beer Week: Hermosa Beach

Saturday was day six of American Craft Beer Week (ACBW), and we actually found a gastropub and a brewpub we were unfamiliar with; and in the process were able to come up with 19 American craft brews that we had not tried yet. That in of itself is a pretty noteworthy accomplishment. For day six we visited The Rockefeller and Abigaile, both located in Hermosa Beach, within a couple blocks of each other. The Rockefeller is a gastropub; meaning they serve food and upscale beers brewed by others. I had called ahead of time to see if they offered beer …

American Craft Beer Week: Manhattan Beach

Thursday was day four, or hump day, of American Craft Beer Week. These photos were taken at Brewco and Simmzy’s; both gastropubs located in Manhattan Beach, CA. While I thought I had planned out where we would end up trying craft brews for each day, I discovered that the brewery I had planned on visiting Thursday was closed, so I had to start looking again. I had heard the name Brewco mentioned a time or two, and they offer flights of craft beers, so we headed over to Manhattan Beach. Brewco was formerly known as Manhattan Beach Brewing Company, but …

American Craft Beer Week: Redondo Beach

The 7th annual American Craft Beer Week continues and we visited two more local craft beer suppliers; Select Beer Store and Redondo Beach Brewing Company, both located in the Riviera Village area of Redondo Beach. While I was readily familiar with Redondo Beach Brewing Company, I only became aware of Select Beer Store last weekend when we visited Strand Brewing Company and the beer-tender, Bonnie, informed us that Strand Brewing would be featured at Select Beer Store as part of American Craft Beer Week. Select Beer advertises that they stock more than 350 bottles and twelve rotating taps of American …

TACC May Networking at Noon at Aimee’s Bistro

Today, Tanya and I joined the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) at Aimee’s Bistro in Redondo Beach for the May meeting of their Networking at Noon. The TACC Networking at Noon is a monthly gathering of Chamber members; usually held at a local restaurant. So far we have been pretty lucky with the host restaurant, but today we really scored by having it at Aimee’s Bistro. The food was delicious. I see a return in my future; maybe do a review on it. The networking event is one of the perks of being a member of the Torrance Area …

Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar Grand Opening!

The residents of Orange County, Westminster to be specific, have a new sushi restaurant in town, Matsuyama Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. I am here to tell you that if you are a fan of great sushi, you do not want to hesitate checking it out. I promise you, you have never had a sushi experience like this. In my youth I looked forward to things like Christmas and getting my driver’s license. As I got older, things like tax refunds and stock dividend checks were anticipated anxiously; they all pale in comparison to how much I was looking forward …

Rock and Brews, El Segundo

A couple of weeks ago, my buddy Phil told me about a new restaurant in El Segundo that had 50 beers on tap, so it did not take much convincing to get me to head over to Rock & Brews last Saturday to check it out. Rock & Brews is partially owned by Gene Simmons, so it was a safe bet that with the combination of rock and roll and 50 beers on tap this was going to be a pleasurable experience. The weather was so-so, but we wanted to go for a bike ride and I figured it would …

Waves of Grain Beerfest 2012 – Roundhouse Aquarium Fundraiser

These photos were taken at the Waves of Grain Beerfest 2012, held at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach, CA. This was a fundraiser for Roundhouse Aquarium in Manhattan Beach, an environmental organization committed to fostering and promoting the education of the oceans, tidelands and beaches of Southern California. It is tough to beat a fundraiser that showcases craft beer, but Waves of Grain did just that by providing craft beers from around the country as well as several local breweries. Local breweries in attendance included Bootleggers Brewery from Fullerton, Cismontane Brewing Company from Rancho Santa Margarita, Golden Road Brewing from …

Easter at Dad’s 2012

This Easter we went over to my dad’s to have dinner with a few siblings, assorted relatives and friends of my dad. I did not count, but I was told 14 or 15 of us were there. There was good food and wine and fellowship. I am posting these photos because I know the relatives can see them all and to help bring awareness to the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation which is the only organization out there helping those suffering from this deadly disease. Did you know Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease (RAD), aka Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), can kill the victim? No money …
