Smog City Brewing Company, the latest microbrewery to locate to Torrance, held an industry only party Saturday afternoon as a continuation of the soft open that they have been having for the past couple of weeks in preparation for their grand opening this coming Saturday, May 18, 2013. The industry only party was to celebrate the launch of their new brewery and taproom and included guests from all facets of the local craft beer community, including owners and representatives from local breweries, brewpubs, and gastropubs as well as members of various media platforms that promote local brewers. It was a very good turnout, with a couple hundred people showing up. The tasting room was opened to the public after the party officially ended.
Smog City Brewing introduced three additional brews to the five that they had available at their soft open of two weeks ago. Penumbra Stout, Amarilla Gorilla and Weird Beer were added to the existing taps of Smog City XPA, Groundwork Coffee Porter, Sabre-Toothed Squirrel, Quercus Circus and Bourbon Red. Their plans include brewing up to 20 different beers, which will definitely set Smog City Brewing apart from most new microbreweries. One main advantage Smog City has over other new breweries is that owner/brewmaster [Jonathan] Porter has several years of experience brewing large batches having started with BJ’s when they brewed on location, then becoming the brewmaster at Tustin Brewing Company back in 2008. All I can say is that if these initial eight varieties of brew are any indication of what we have to expect, Smog City Brewing is going to be very well accepted in the South Bay.
Smog City Brewing is located at 1901 Del Amo Blvd. Ste. B, Torrance and will be open on Saturday May 18 from 12:00 until 9:00 PM. They will then be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
