Strand Brewing Co Pint Night at Naja’s Place

These photos are from Strand Brewing Company’s Pint Night at the world famous Naja’s Place, located on the International Boardwalk at the Redondo Beach Pier. This event was to commemorate Strand Brewing Company’s three years of brewing craft ales and was held at Naja’s Place because they were the first location to pour Strand Brewing Company beer. For Thursday’s celebration, Strand provided these fine brews: Beach House Amber Ale 24th Street Pale Ale Atticus IPA Black Sand Double IPA Bagheera East IPA Special Cask of Double Dry Hopped Atticus IPA The event started at 6:00 PM and advertised that the …

Photos from Business N Beer at Sophie’s Place

These photos are from our weekly Business & Beer gathering, which was held last night at Sophie’s Place in the Riviera Village section of Redondo Beach. Sophie’s Place is a family run gastropub, run by three brothers, and it is one place that always makes us feel like family; whether we come in as a group or by ourselves. Besides having a very nice beer list, with eight beers available on rotating taps and about 50 varieties available in bottles, they have a great food menu. Last night, Tanya and I tried a Yeti Float which is made with vanilla …

Angel, DNA & Yahoo reunite mother & son after 44 years

A few weeks ago I saw a status update on Facebook, from my friend Tim, suggesting that he had recently discovered that he was related to the outlaw, Jesse James. I figured he was using Ancestry.com or something like that and like many that responded to his update, took it with a grain of salt. A little over a week ago, Tim posted another status update informing us that he was adopted and had learned of the whereabouts of his birth mother and a sister. This was followed with another update that he had spoken with his newly found sister, …

Simi, Smell Me, Taste Me Sunday

These photos were taken Sunday at Enegren Brewing Company in Moorpark, CA and Lab Brewing Company in Agoura Hills, CA. A few days ago I was at El Segundo Brewing Company and was introduced to Joe Nascenzi, one of the owners of Enegren Brewing Co., a microbrewery in Moorpark, CA. After talking with him for a while, and hearing what kind of beers they were brewing over there, I knew that I had to head out there with Tanya. While I am a definite hophead, Tanya is more into saisons, porters and stouts. When Joe told me about their oatmeal …

Schooner at Sunset, Sunset Beach

These photos were taken Saturday at a new gastropub, Schooner at Sunset, which is located at 16821 Pacific Coast Highway, Sunset Beach, CA. For those not sure where Sunset Beach is, it is the very north end of Huntington Beach, just south of Seal Beach. Your car’s GPS is most likely going to call it Huntington Beach, so don’t worry, it is all the same place. To be honest, I am not really in the habit of going down there unless I am taking a weekend motorcycle ride down the coast. The fact of the matter is, when I initially …

Business & Beer at Brewco, Manhattan Beach

These photos are from our Business & Beer gathering at Brewco, a gastropub in Manhattan Beach, CA. Brewco was initially opened about 20 years ago as Manhattan Beach Brewing Company. From what I can tell, they stopped brewing beer on location sometime in 2009 at which point it re-opened as Brewco. Brewco offers about 50 beers on tap, with most of them being craft beers from around the world. They also offer several bottled craft beers and frequently have hard to find brews available. This was the first time that we brought Business & Beer to this location and it …

Easyriders Bike Show 2013 – Anaheim

These photos are from the 2013 Easyriders Bike Show held at the Anaheim Convention Center on January 5, 2013. The Easyriders Bike Show Tour is put on by Easyriders Events and travels to numerous locations around the country. It features 100’s of custom show and street bikes of every genre. It is always a visual treat; even if it is difficult to focus in all that chrome. I made it there a little earlier today than last year, when I got there a couple hours before it ended, so there were a lot more people to get in the way …

Business & Beer at Alpine Inn, Torrance

These photos are from our return visit to the Alpine Inn with our Business & Beer networking group. The Alpine Inn is a German gastropub that has a nice selection of craft beers from the United States, Germany and the Czech Republic. This was our third visit to the Alpine Inn and it seems that every time we meet there we have a nice turnout of about 15 people. When you consider that Alpine Village is the furthest south we take our group and that it was only three days after New Year’s Day, I was pleased to see the …

Floats of the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade

These photos are of the floats of the 124th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade which was held Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Pasadena, CA. As I took far too many photos to be viewed easily in one gallery, I broke the photos up into two groups; the floats of the parade and one of the people of the Rose Parade which includes the marching bands and equestrian units. This gallery includes all the floats as well as the cars transporting the Grand Marshal, President of the Tournament of Roses, Hall of Fame Inductees and others of that type. Due to …

The people, bands and equestrian units of the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade

These photos were taken at the 124th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade, held January 1, 2013. Once again, I have taken too many photos to put in one gallery, so I have broken them up into two groups. This gallery consists of basically anything that was not a float; marching bands, equestrian units and basic people watching. I was set up at Colorado Boulevard and Allen Avenue, primarily on the southeast corner. As this is a very large gallery, you might find it easier to view using the slideshow feature; you can use the full screen option for the best …
